The background section of the review protocol and systematic review should be comprehensive and consider the main elements of the topic under review. Many reviewers will find that the background provided with the protocol needs modification or extension following the conduct of the review proper. The background should detail any definitions important to the review. The information in the background section must be sufficient to put the review inclusion criteria into context and also highlight the importance and relevance of the topic for the reader and a clear basis for the rationale to pursue the review topic. The background section should conclude with a statement that a preliminary search for previous systematic reviews on the topic was conducted (state the sources searched e.g. La sección de antecedentes del protocolo de revisión y de la revisión sistemática debe ser exhaustiva y considerar los principales elementos del tema objeto de revisión. Muchos revisores descubrirán que los antecedentes proporcionados con el protocolo necesitan modificaciones o ampliaciones tras la realización de la revisión propiamente dicha. Los antecedentes deben detallar cualquier definición importante para la revisión. La información de la sección de antecedentes debe ser suficiente para poner en contexto los criterios de inclusión de la revisión y también para resaltar la importancia y relevancia del tema para el lector, así como una base clara de la justificación para seguir con el tema de la revisión. La sección de antecedentes debe concluir con una declaración de que se ha realizado una búsqueda preliminar de revisiones sistemáticas previas sobre el tema (indicar las fuentes en las que se ha buscado, por ejemplo, JBI Evidence Synthesis, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, PubMed, PROSPERO). If there is a previous systematic review on the topic, it should be specified how the proposed review differs. All JBI systematic reviews should contain a sentence clearly stating: 

“The objectives, inclusion criteria and methods of analysis for this review were specified in advance and documented in an a priori protocol. Ref” (Reference should be to the appropriate citation in the JBI Evidence Synthesis, and provide registration number in PROSPERO where applicable).

This sentence should appear as the final line of the background/introduction section of the review report and complies with the recommendations for reporting of systematic reviews detailed in the PRISMA guidelinesSi existe una revisión sistemática previa sobre el tema, se debe especificar en qué se diferencia la revisión propuesta. Todas las revisiones sistemáticas del JBI deben contener una frase que indique claramente:

"Los objetivos, los criterios de inclusión y los métodos de análisis de esta revisión se especificaron por adelantado y se documentaron en un protocolo a priori. Ref” (La referencia debe ser a la cita adecuada en la JBI Evidence Synthesis y proporcionar el número de registro en PROSPERO cuando corresponda).

Esta frase debe aparecer como línea final de la sección de antecedentes/introducción del informe de revisión y cumple con las recomendaciones para la presentación de informes de revisiones sistemáticas detalladas en las directrices PRISMA.
